About a month ago, I was reading an article in some women's fashion magazine about this clothing line, Bitten, that Sarah Jessica Parker designed. She was talking about growing up on Goodwill and Kmart and how all women, regardless of their income, should be able to wear stylish clothes. Her conclusion? A trendy clothing line where nothing costs more than $20. Sounds great right?
My first thought was I'm never going to find a store around here that sells it. Then, I go to the mall today searching for hiking boots and see a big ole sign with SJP's smiling face on it. Sweet!
I go into the store, grab 50 pounds of cute clothes; jeans for 14.98, tees for $5, cute little dresses for $19. I'm freaking out.
Then I get to the fitting rooms. And noooothing fits. One size is too small, the next size is too big. Jeans look great on my butt but are 3 inches too big around the waist. The tops of dresses are falling down but the bottoms fit perfectly. WTF? I ended up buy two shirts and some jewelry (one size fits all!) and am so sad that nothing else fit. So much for your manifesto, Ms. Parker.

i feel your pain. as long as size 2 women are designing clothes, i fear they'll only ever fit the two's of the world (or the 12's wanting to squeeze into what's meant for a 2). daisy fuentes' line at kohl's, however, is made for the curvier girl. great stuff.
Amen to that. I'd like to know the bra/chest size they design clothes for, because it seems like everything's made for a 32A or something. I do not need an XXL with sleeves down to my knees, thank you!
New York & Company is the only place that has clothes that really fit me to size.
Ann Taylor makes great jeans for girls with waists AND hips who are in the 5-foot-4 range - not petite but not tall enough for most "average" jeans - I have always been thankful for that. When they're half off I buy two pairs! And their shirts are cut for actual breasts, usually. Again, only affordable during their sales, but still.
Jeannine, who would've known? I've found sweaters at their outlet but didn't have the heart to try on the jeans. Next time I will.

The 5'4" club! I love it! And that is the perfect explanation of our problem, too. Unfortunately, Ann Talyor and NY&C don't sell for under $20. I'm sticking with old navy for now...their pants always fit me, even if I'm walking on the cuffs.
